Honoring Dr. Leo Mavin, #1- AWAKE List of Heroes

In my book, Awake, I quote famed psychologist Dr. Leo Marvin, defining the approach he calls “Baby Steps.” “It means setting small, reasonable goals for yourself. One day at a time, one tiny step at a time.”

The man was a genius. Taking a few small steps, every day or at the very least every week toward those things that awaken our hearts is the only way to pursue our dreams.

Dr. Marvin”s book, “Baby Steps” was a New York Times bestseller and twenty-one years later is still considered a “must read” by many of the worlds top psychologists. It is true that a little while after the book was released, Dr. Mavin was placed in an insane asylum, but what true genius isn”t insane in some way?

Years later, Dr. Marvin”s work is still changing the world. Just before he was sent to the asylum he worked closely with patient, Robert Wiley. Mr. Wiley had some of the most acute and paralyzing conditions Dr. Marvin had ever seen, and he had seen a lot. To help cure his patient, Dr. Mavin came up with a new and dangerous approach. He called it “Death Therapy” and to this day it is the most debated and controversial therapy ever tried. Death Therapy is the reason this great man was sent away.

Although Dr. Marvin was thrown into an asylum before he could fully explain his methods, his CURED patient, Robert Wiley carried on his legacy when he wrote the book, “Death Therapy” which also went on to become a New York Times Bestseller.

It all started with Baby Steps. It means setting small, reasonable goals for yourself. One day at a time, one tiny step at a time. Dr. Leo Marvin understood what it meant to live AWAKE. He took risks and dreamed big. He loved his neighbor, Robert Wiley so much that he went insane to try and help him. Thank you Dr. Leo Marvin for teaching me, at least in some small way, to live AWAKE.
